Industrial Fabrics Inc. supplies Rock Shield pipeline protection systems designed to protect pipeline coatings from damage caused by angular rocks and boulders in rocky trench environments. Our extruded foam Rock Shield products provide a compressible buffer layer between the pipe coating and surrounding backfill material, preventing stress concentrations and coating puncture.
Rock Shield systems are widely specified by pipeline operators for crossings in rocky terrain where padding soil is unavailable or impractical to import. The closed-cell foam construction provides both physical protection and compressibility to accommodate backfill settlement without transmitting point loads to the pipe coating.
Rock Shield products are available in multiple foam densities and thicknesses to address varying degrees of rock angularity and backfill pressure. Products are supplied in half-shell sections sized to nominal pipe diameters from 4-inch through 60-inch, and in sheet format for custom wrapping of fittings and bends.
Rock Shield foam materials are manufactured from expanded polyethylene or extruded polystyrene with compressive strength certified per ASTM D1621. Long-term creep behavior under sustained overburden load is evaluated per ASTM E2453. Products conform to pipeline operator specifications including API RP 1119 requirements for coating protection materials in rocky trench conditions.
